Prototyping

Validating design through functional working prototypes

Prototyping is the following step from the engineering samples where higher number of aspects towards the product launch are taken into account.

In step-based approach a set of prototype generation can be produced having typically increasing integration level, improved reliability and usability. Prototypes can be realized without formal medical regulation, but following MedPhab standards, or alternately under full industrial control used in (pre)clinical validation.

Success story: Prostate cancer treatment with photodynamic therapy

A prostate cancer treatment sought a more cost-effective solution for delivering photodynamic therapy. The main challenge was the high manufacturing cost of the existing optical system, which risked limiting broader clinical adoption.

Through MedPhab’s support, the optical components were redesigned with a strong focus on cost-efficiency, aided by advanced thermal simulations and Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles. The result not only exceeded the cost-saving targets but also maintained the same high level of optical performance. The improved system is now ready for clinical evaluation, bringing the hospital closer to offering more accessible, cutting-edge cancer treatment.
